BL are always sensitive to the individuals needs. Disclosure of any disability will be kept confidential, only information necessary to keep both you and others safe will be given to BL staff or your employer and only after discussing this with you first. If there is anything you wish to tell us about special requirements or support you might need please discuss this with us at your interview.

What next?

Once you have contacted us you will be given or sent an application form to complete. This involves completing information about previous experience/employment, hobbies and interests. You need to send the completed form to the training centre you wish to attend. You will then be invited to attend an interview and initial assessment which helps us decide what support you may need. We will help you find employment in a salon and a place will then be reserved for you on our training programme.

How can we support you?

We have staff that can help you with numeracy, literacy and information technology skills and help if you have any learning difficulties also we have a wide range of training equipment.

We have access to other organisations which can help us support you if you have a physical disability, each person’s individual needs will be confidentially discussed at the initial interview. We will try to make any adaptation required to accommodate you on your course. For example for a partially hearing person we can acquire equipment to help with using the telephone.

We can organise support with the Examination Board. When necessary you may have extra time for tests, a staff member to read/write for you, a room of your own or papers in large print.

Access to centres and salons

All centres have parking directly outside the centre or street parking near by and have toilets, training rooms and training salons on a number of different floors. Some centres and salons have easier accessibility than others. Individual access needs would need to be discussed prior to interview. If you need to discuss accessibility or any other special requirement you feel you might require you can speak to Beverly McDonald our Recruitment Officer at the Newcastle Centre or speak to any of our Training Managers at any of our training centres.
